Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe is poised to leave on loan this January transfer window, provided the team do not suffer any more injuries in the back line. Multiple outlets have linked Aston Villa as a possible destination, but nothing is set as of now.
United manager Jose Mourinho met the media today for his weekly news conference, and he articulated the possibilities that lie in store for Tuanzebe.
“Tuanzebe is a very good player that is not having lots of possibilities to play here, but he’s our player and will be our player, no chance we give up on such a talented boy but is something we are thinking about a loan until the end of the season,” Mourinho said.
The 20-year-old made a first team appearance late last season, has only featured three times this campaign. He has yet to crack the starting XI in 2017-18.
Mourinho went on to say that the fate of Tuanzebe depends on the status of central defender Eric Bailly.
“We are a bit afraid of injuries, of needing him, we have Eric Bailly injured, we are not free of other injuries so we are delaying the decision and we are going to delay until the end of the transfer window,” Mourinho continued.
“If we have a decision at the end of the month and feel Eric Bailly is close to being back then probably will be good for Axel to go on a loan and be back next season because he’s a player we like very much.”
Tuanzebe is an English international who was born in the Congo. He’s been capped for the England U19, U20 and U21s.
