Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is high on his former arch-rival team Manchester United. Perhaps once Red Devils supporters get word of what Stevie G. had to say, they’ll stop calling him Slippy G. and holding up “dangerous wet floor” signs. Probably not, as that bit is actually quite entertaining, but it’s still a pleasant story to see one side of the rivalry saying pleasant things about the other side; for a change.
Steven Gerrard has now retired from football, and he’s now a pundit forย BT Sport.
Ahead of Saturday’s game against United-West Brom clash Gerrard said this of United:
“They’re only a few more pieces away from the jigsaw that’ll make them compete again at the top.”
“I think next year Manchester United will compete for the title. This year, they’ve maybe left themselves a little bit much to do, but they’re certainly moving forward and playing an awful lot better than in previous years.”
The Red Devils, who went on to win 2-0 today, are currently still 13 points off the pace for the top of the table. According to Bet365, Chelsea are overwhelming league title favorites, with United checking in 25-1. Their odds for the top four, and getting back into the UEFA Champions League are much much better. ย They are currently three points behind fourth place city, and four behind Liverpool and Arsenal, who reside in second third.
However, all three of those teams have a game in hand on United.
When asked if United could finish in the top four this season, Gerrard replied: “Got a chance.”
