Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata who provided the only scoring in the Red Devils 1-0 EFL Cup victory over Manchester City today, said his team “gave 100%.”
That’s really noticeable and noteworthy because not all clubs truly do.
“It was very important to win today after the defeat in London and it was a massive win for us. We gave 100 percent.”
“It’s a great feeling every time you score an important goal. It was a great feeling we left everything on the pitch.”
That 4-0 loss was extremely tough for everybody, but it was especially hard on Mata, given that Chelsea was the club that he was at before moving to United. Here’s footage of the Juan Mata goal:

This win today was for the supporters, according to United Manager Jose Mourinho. Sure, not everybody takes the EFL Cup that seriously, as it’s hard to get really fired up for something that has multiple names/keeps changing its name all the time. City fielded a reserve side while United went first teamer heavy for this one. You saw mostly starters on that first XI team sheet.ย
They definitely played to win, as Juan Mata put it. That’s a very good thing because United suporters really needed something, anything positive; like Mourinho said.
