Manchester United holding midfielder Nemanja Matic made a very classy gesture to Fred, his new teammate on the club level yesterday. Fred’s national side, Brazil, beat and thus eliminated Matic’s side, Serbia, from the 2018 World Cup on Wednesday, but after the game there was a nice show of solidarity and sportsmanship between the two Red Devils.
After the match, Matic gave his shirt to Fred, who later posted a photo on his official Instagram account thanking the Serbian for gifting it to him.
Fred also told ESPN Brazil that Matic will make a great teammate this upcoming season.
“It was a nice chat with him, he welcomed me for coming to the great club that is Manchester,” said Fred, who was officially unveiled as a new member of the club last week. “We exchanged shirts, too, he will be a great teammate.”
Fred and Matic will team up in what is to starting to look like a very crowded midfield. Now with Marouane Fellaini coming back, it’s apparent that competition for playing time will be very high. Fred said he hasn’t had time to look ahead and think about adjusting to life at Old Trafford.
For right now, he’s focused on the World Cup with Brazil, the favorites to win it all.
“It’s a big change, but I have not stopped yet … It still hasn’t set in, I’m very focused here on the World Cup,” he said.
“I do not think much about it, but it’s a great club in Europe, it’s one of the biggest, so I’m very happy for that,” he added.
