Manchester United Executive Vice President Ed Woodward talked Manager Louis van Gaal out of resigning not once, but twice this past weekend. Van Gaal reportedly admitted that he’s failed in this role, and he’s willing to accept it and move on, according to a report in The Guardian.
Elsewhere, according to The Mirror, Woodward still believes Van Gaal is the right candidate to take the Red Devils forward despite the overwhelming criticism being leveled at his door.
Woodward reportedly told Van Gaal to not make any rash decisions, to go home and talk about the idea of resigning with his family. So if you want LVG out, as so many do, it appears Woodward is the problem, not the Dutchman. Multiple outlets claim that another crunch talks meeting is happening tomorrow and it’s possible that we might see a resolution finally on this issue.
The United board are apparently split on the idea of Jose Mourinho as Van Gaal’s successor. The Special One would potentially like to control almost all of the football aspects of the club, and it doesn’t seem like the Old Trafford higher-ups would be too keen on that.
Woodward and company would prefer to appoint Ryan Giggs to the position; if they have to make a change.
