Given the new Ramos deal, De Gea staying at United?

Time for your daily David de Gea and Sergio Ramos updates. The summer’s never ending transfer window soap opera, the 2015 version of the Arturo Vidal saga last summer, is now over. Will De Gea stay at Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid? Same question regarding Ramos (just reverse the teams) is what everyone has been talking about since early June. The two players’ potential transfer moves became inter-twined; and the narrative dragged on months.

Well, Ramos’ decision to stay at Real Madrid is officially official now.

We just did a piece on that which elaborates more on him; you can read that here.

You know the ultimatum United gave Real- the only way Los Blancos get De Gea is if the Red Devils receive Ramos in return. Since Ramos is staying put, if A=B and B=C, by transitive property of inequality, etc. etc. etc. So it looks like De Gea will have to wait until next year, when he’s out of contract and the Spanish giants can get him on a free, to make his move to the Bernabeu.

Which means this story line finally ends here on August 18th.

At least it’s the end of the transfer rumor line. Of course, now there’s been plenty of new drama for De Gea at United.

Only the people who are involved- De Gea, Van Gaal, the club, know for sure what’s going on. What comes out in the media is he said, he said, and it’s gotten quite tedious. Although now, it all fits. The soap opera and De Gea’s allegedly unsettled disposition probably coincided with the moment that he figured out his transfer wasn’t going to happen this year.

For what it’s worth, De Gea is training with the first team again, although Sergio Romero remains the starter for now.
