Time for your daily David de Gea update. It’s a a never ending soap opera like Arturo Vidal was last summer. Will he stay at Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid? Nothing is official yet of course, but here’s the latest headlines on the situation.
Turns out if/when De Gea leaves United for the Spanish capital, we could see a massive domino theory in action.
-(Daily Mail) Real Madrid are sure that David de Gea will join them from Manchester United this summer and are actively looking for a buyer for Iker Casillas, with Tottenham being one of the clubs touted as a potential destination.
Casillas wants to leave given that he will be the No 2 keeper when De Gea arrives, but he is owed £8 million on the final year of his contract, a sum Real are reluctant to pay.
-Then of course, naturally, Hugo Lloris moves from White Hart Lane to Old Trafford, as has been discussed quite a bit this summer talking season. If not Lloris, then who else could be the De Gea successor?
-(Mirror) Manchester United will step up their bid to land Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen to replace David De Gea – on the advice of keeper coach Frans Hoek.
Hoek was asked to draw up a shortlist of candidates capable of taking over from De Gea after the Spanish international made it clear he wouldn’t be signing a new contract.
