Friday morning saw Manchester City announce that striker Sergio Aguero is going to be a major part of their long term plans. This despite his having to take a back seat to Gabriel Jesus at certain times over the course of the last two seasons. The club announced a new contract extension for the 30-year-old Argentine that will keep him at the Club until 2021.
“I am happy for this additional year,” Aguero told the club’s online web channel. “My idea was being here for 10 years. I’ve been here for seven years, it’s going to be 10 when the contract expires. Hopefully, that’s going to happen. This was the main reason I signed.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “We are delighted that Sergio is extending his stay at Manchester City.
“He has been so important to this Club since his arrival in 2011 and he remains at the forefront of what we are want to achieve in the coming years.
“We are fortunate to have had one of the best strikers in the world at our Club for so many years and I’m sure our supporters will be thrilled with this news.”
Agüero joined the club in July 2011 for an undisclosed fee which is thought to be approximately £35 million. He has since scored 204 goals in 299 appearances, and that puts him in a position is continue breaking scoring records on both the club and the Premier League level.
