Liverpool FC have reportedly exercised the £13 million release clause of Stoke City man Xherdan Shaqiri. According to numerous outlets, the Switzerland international is in Merseyside to undergo a medical and finalize his move to the club.
The midfielder cut his post World Cup holiday short in order to finalize the move to his new club. Shaqiri has made it known publicly for quite some time that he has no intentions of staying with the relegated Potters, and he wants to play for a team that remains in the top flight.

The 26-year-old is expected to be confirmed as the third signing of the window, behind Naby Keita and Fabinho, by the end of the weekend. Shaqiri, who had been linked to the Reds in a few previous transfer windows, isn’t the most exciting signing ever, but he is a nice piece to add to the puzzle. He scored eight goals and registered seven assists for arguably the worst team in the league last season, but at Anfield he’ll be a really solid back-up.
Working in Jurgen Klopp’s system, surrounded by more talented players, expect Shaqiri to have a productive campaign.
