Jurgen Klopp met the media a few hours ago to preview this weekend’s headliner Premier League fixture, Liverpool at Arsenal. The beginning of the session (video available at this link) saw the Liverpool manager make a very newsworthy admission about his star winger Mohamed Salah.
It turns out the Egyptian is currently battling a wrist issue, but it has not been deemed serious enough to keep him out of the blockbuster of a match tomorrow. Salah was spotted wearing splint on his right wrist during the Reds training session.
“Mo, it is nothing really serious. It’s a kind of inflammation of the tendon. That’s pretty much all,” the German said at his news conference.
“It [the support] was only for protection — the pictures you saw were only protection and it has no influence.”
Klopp also gave an update on the status of the two midfielders currently battling hamstring injuries- Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita. Both will be out of commission for the trip to the Emirates, and doubtful for the Champions League clash in midweek against Red Star Belgrade.
“Hendo feels really good but it will be probably the start of the week when he will be back in training,” Klopp continued. “Naby, end of this week. It doesn’t make a big difference match-wise, but that’s how it looks.”
“In football, a not-too-serious injury takes still two, three or four weeks. You are lucky if you only have an injury like that, but that only means in the Premier League [you will miss] 20 games.”
“They are completely in time, if you want. It’s like we expected it. We didn’t have to rush it; actually we couldn’t, but there was no reason for trying it.””
