Lyon club President Jean-Michel Aulas told the public why he granted Nabil Fekir the chance to join Liverpool F.C. earlier this summer, but believes the player will stay put. Aulas says Fekir, who came extremely close to moving to Anfield this summer transfer window, before the move fell apart at the 11th hour, is going to remain right where he is, because his manager Bruno Genesio wants to keep him on the roster.
Even after the move to Liverpool fell apart at the last minute, there was still talk that he could make the switch to the Reds this summer. There has also been a fair amount of stories linking the France international to Manchester United as well.
However, according to Aulas, neither will happen.
“Nabil will, I think, be at Lyon next season,” Aulas said in an interview with RMC Sport
“I have a near father-son relationship with my players, and I gave him the opportunity to join Liverpool because of their legendary status.
“I did the same with [Corentin] Tolisso [who joined Bayern Munich] and [Samuel] Umtiti [who went to Barcelona]. Nabil is our captain, and the wish of the coach [Bruno Genesio] is that he is kept.”
Nabil Fekir is currently with France at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. They will face Belgium in the semifinals on Tuesday.
