You know all those stories you saw on Monday about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reaching an agreement to move to Chelsea? Well you can strikethrough, you know the cross out line, on Chelsea and insert Liverpool in instead. The 24-year-old Arsenal midfielder nixed the Stamford Bridge move, because he prefers a transfer to Anfield instead.
According to the BBC that’s exactly what’s going to happen now, as a £40 million deal has now been struck.
The BBC points out that the Ox’s transfer fee: “would have been Liverpool’s club record deal, but the Reds have agreed to sign RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita next summer for £48m.”
The Ox transfer saga is a narrative that has literally involved half of the Premier League big six. With the future of Oxlade-Chamberlain apparently wrapping up, some of the other dominoes should now fall into place. For Chelsea, they can focus on closing other last minute deals, like Fernando Llorente. At Anfield, they can work on getting Thomas Lemar before the deadline passes. For Arsenal, the focus needs to be shipping out Alexis Sanchez before the midnight hour.
