Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot was first linked with a move to Liverpool FC last October, but at that time there wasn’t a whole lot of substance to that specific transfer rumor.
Over the summer, we learned that Rabiot definitely wants to leave the French capital, with a host of big clubs holding talks with his representatives. According to various reports, his agent and mother Veronique had meetings with both Manchester clubs about a potential move. She’s also reportedly spoken with Juventus and Barcelona. Chelsea have been linked as well.
Wednesday brought news of Liverpool having made contact by telephone with Veronique Rabiot, for a potential acquisition of her son/client, according to an ESPN report.
“Jurgen Klopp is a long-time admirer of Rabiot and tried to sign him when he was Borussia Dortmund coach,” the ESPN FC article states.
Rabiot, who wasn’t used as a first team regular under Unai Emery at the Parc des Princes last season, will be available on a free transfer come January, as he is now in the final year of his current deal. The Ligue 1 powerhouse refused to sell him this past summer, but his role with the club moving forward is still not clear. Under new manager Thomas Tuchel, the club has tried to re-sign him, but the 23-year-old has rejected all offers up to this point.
Adrien Rabiot, who has been used quite often as a defensive midfielder, might just be better off with a fresh start. In an interview last fall, he said that he admired Liverpool as a youth.
