Liverpool are going to see a fair amount of flux and turnover in their midfield over the next few weeks. The good news regarding James Milner is that his situation is not as bad as had been initially feared when he left yesterday’s goalless draw with Manchester City in the 26′.
The bad news, according to the Daily Mail, is that he’ll be out of commission for up to a month. James Milner has been a workhorse (starting every game but one across all competitions this season) for the Reds so you have to wonder if the fixture congestion ahead of the international break, which put extra wear and tear on everybody, might have contributed to the development of this injury.
If that is the case, then you can totally understand why Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ripped the UEFA Nations League and the goofy schedule it created.
While Milner (who has often served as the Reds skipper this term) will be missing from the lineup, it looks like Adam Lallana could be coming back in. The long term absentee has been in training all week, and he should be fit for selection after the break when Liverpool take on Huddersfield Town.
Given that new acquisitions Fabinho and Naby Keita have struggled to earn more consistent minutes, the opportunity will be there for Lallana.
