In the words of early ’90s R&B star Ce Ce Peniston: “finally, it has happened to me.” Emre Can departing Liverpool and joining Juventus is a transfer deal that we all knew was going to happen since April; and honestly, it was a long time coming even before that.

The Juventus club website made the following official announcement:

juventus

“The versatile midfielder, who can also operate in defence, joins Juventus after four years with Liverpool FC. He has made over 150 appearances with the Reds, scoring 14 goals, since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014.”

“Juve will be the Frankfurt native’s fourth club of his senior career, after starting out with Bayern Munich, and everyone at Juventus Football Club would like to extend a big welcome to Emre Can. Willkommen, Emre!”

The German international signs a four year deal worth €4 million per season.

With Liverpool having added Fabinho as their first summer transfer window signing, it was clear that Can wouldn’t really have had much of a place in the Liverpool midfield next season, so it was definitely right for him to move on.

Below you’ll find the video message Can gave to supporters of The Old Lady:

Can was acquired by Liverpool during the Brendan Rodgers regime from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2014.

Since moving to Anfield as a 20-year-old, Can he developed very nicely under Jurgen Klopp, providing occasional scoring, in addition to his reliability and tactical awareness. Juve picked up a nice piece to their puzzle today.
