For all that Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers has accomplished, he’s already on the hot seat, believe it or not. How quickly people forget 2013-14, the best season Liverpool has had in about 25 years. However, the Reds have not come even remotely close to being able to replace the departed Luis Suarez, and his absence, coupled with the injury of Daniel Sturridge has been disastrous.
Brendan Rodgers has only responded to these problems with excuses, not results.
Rodgers summer transfer window was busy, and conveyed promise back in August. Today, it looks like a failure. Then there was the “playing his B Team debacle” that Brendan Rodgers suffered in Champions League versus Real Madrid. Again Rodgers offered no explanation, only cliches. So it’s been a rough start to this season, but is it enough to say that his job in jeopardy? That seems like a bit much.
Here’s the word from ESPN FC: “After a less-than-spectacular start to the season, the first signs that Brendan Rodgers may losing his grip on the Liverpool top job might just be starting to show.
The Mirror reports that, for the first time in five years, a top English-based betting agency have quoted odds on the next Liverpool manager — with former Reds boss Rafa Benitez installed as 6-1 favourite.”
The Mirror piece also says that Rafa Benitez has hinted strongly he will leave Napoli at the end of the season to rejoin his family on Merseyside.
