New Liverpool #1 Alisson Becker, who broke the all time transfer fee record (£67 million) for a goalkeeper when he moved to Anfield from AS Roma in July, will play his first minutes with his new club on Saturday. In Liverpool’s penultimate preseason friendly, Alisson will face a side from the league that he just came from in Napoli.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed the news to Liverpool’s official website: “It’s pretty likely (he’ll make his debut). We should not waste time.”
“Then it’ll be nearly a week, or six days in training, since he (started) and yes, he will play,” Klopp continued.
Liverpool’s final pre-season friendly will also be against a Serie A side, Torino, on August 7. They will then start playing for real on August 12, with the Premier League regular season opener at home against West Ham United. The German also said Alisson has been killing it in training.
“He obviously has a real presence, he’s smart, he’s very nice and it’s good to have him around,” Klopp continued. “It’s only positive, even the performance in training – which is not too important in the beginning – are already exceptional, so all good.”
The 25-year-old was on an extended holiday when the transfer deal was done, having just played for Brazil in the 2018 World Cup.
