Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 this afternoon at Old Trafford, in a match that may very well end up deciding the Premier League runners-up this season. At the very least, today’s win was a huge boost towards solidifying United’s chances for a top four finish this season.
United have not finished in the top three since Sir Alex Ferguson went out on top with a league title in 2013.
If there was a catch-phrase for the interview Jose Mourinho conducted after the game it was “I DON’T CARE.”
The Portugese said the phrase multiple times in reference to his idea that both he and his side will be criticized for the manner in which they won today. It is a bit odd that he acted this way, given how today’s effort is likely going to elicit mostly praise all around. However, that is Mourinho for you, always with some kind of mind games, being defensive about himself, taking pre-emptive strikes agains his critics.
Mourinho even went Jay Cutler style with his expression of “I doooooooon’t caaaaaaaaaare,” and you can see that in the video below:

This goes without saying of course, but any time anybody goes out of their way to say “I don’t care,” they do care. The act of saying this shows at least some level of care. In Mourinho’s case, this could be a reference to pundits Gary Neville and Graeme Souness, who the manager returned fire on his news conference yesterday.
Neville and Souness have previously been very critical of Mourinho and United this season. On a side note to this Mourinho interview, Paul Pogba came over while he was doing it to acknowledge and embrace his manager, temporarily putting to rest the idea that the two men have a major rift. Watch that video over at this link.
United have Sevilla next in UEFA Champions League action on Tuesday night.
Mourinho and company are now 12 points clear of fifth place Chelsea, who currently have a game in hand.
