Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante didn’t feature in the 1-0 loss at Manchester City over the weekend, due to a very scary incident that occurred a couple days prior to the match. According to an exclusive in The Telegraph, Kante fainted at the training ground on Friday and his shocked teammates:
“were terrified Kante had suffered a heart problem when he momentarily passed out in front of them…Even though Kante was not found to have any heart issue and travelled with the rest of the squad to the Etihad.”
The reigning PFA Player of the Year is reportedly “slumped to one side” in the Chelsea dressing room, and he was then sent for cardiology tests, which fortunately all turned out okay.
The tests came out clear, but he was held out of the match on Sunday as a precaution. With the tragic passing of Fiorentina Captain Davide Astori on Sunday morning, serious health concerns for football players are certainly top of mind right now.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte coached Astori on the Italian National Team. NBC Sports reports that Kante will likely be available for Chelsea’s match versus Crystal Palace this weekend, and that his fainting may have been related to the extreme cold and very unseasonable chills which swept through the UK last week. Obviously, everybody involved wishes nothing but the best for N’Golo Kante and his family.
