In January of 2014 Nemanja Matic returned to Chelsea from Benfica, with the then 25 year old Serbian star signing a five-and-a-half-year deal. Benfica received a fee of 25 million euros (£20.75 million) for Matic. He originally departed Chelsea as part of the deal which saw David Luiz move to west London from Benfica five years ago.
Luiz is now back at Stamford Bridge, but there’s talk Matic could be on the way out.
Nemanja Matic was photographed in Milan with his agent; fueling transfer speculation. The midfielder, who sees regularly playing time under Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, could be headed to Serie A, with AC Milan the most likely destination.
Chelsea fans seem to be okay with that though. Metro posted a story on Nemanja Matic that included a few tweets from Chelsea fans saying “good riddance”
With his former manager Jose Mourinho now in charge at Manchester United, we also heard talk back in the summer that Matic could be following The Special One from the Blues to the Red Devils.
According to ESPN FC’s sources inside the club, back on June 9th, Nemanja Matic is a high priority target as Mourinho is now focused on “bolstering the club’s midfield.
Obviously that didn’t happen, and United instead bolstered the midfield in a much bigger and even better way- Paul Pogba, the most expensive player in history.
