Seems a bit odd to be unveiling a new shirt in the middle of September. That’s really more of a June/July, early August at the very latest kind of thing. Yet here we are, Tottenham Hotspur revealed their third kit yesterday, with Chelsea and Manchester City following suit today.

All three of these strips will be worn (and hence created) primarily for away games in European competition this season. That is obviously code for “reason to market jerseys, move product and hence make more money for the clubs and sports wear designers.” It’s all about coming up with new excuses to increase revenue and hence the decision to make this product launch now, to coincide with the clubs commencing their UEFA Champions League campaigns, and therefore at the front of the public consciousness.
