Eden Hazard Prefers Playing with Olivier Giroud over Alvaro Morata Says Jamie Carragher

After bagging a hat trick for Chelsea this past Saturday in a resounding 4-1 win over Cardiff City, Eden Hazard drew heavy praise from his manager Maurizio Sarri, who said the Belgian could score 40 goals this season.

Hazard, who is clearly much better suited to the Sarri system than to the tactics of predecessors Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, is playing at an all world form right now, which has social media users in awe.

Sarri has even referred to him as the best player in Europe. As for the 27-year-old winger/forward himself, he gives credit to his striker/centre forward Olivier Giroud, who he labelled the as potentially “the best target man in the world.”

“He’s a target man, maybe the best in the world. I think so,” Hazard said in postgame of the Frenchman who had two assists in the very one-sided victory.

“When he gets the ball, he can hold it and we can go with him. For us, he’s a player to play with. When Alvaro was playing it is completely different, he’s a different player with different qualities, and it’s good to have two good strikers in the team.”

Yes, the debate about who Sarri should start- Giroud or Alvaro Morata, is one that is subject to much debate right now. Like Eden Hazard just said, Morata and Giroud are different players with differentiated skill sets.

Liverpool legend and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher says that Hazard’s commentary conveys a preference to playing with the former Arsenal man who was acquired in January; and not the big money summer 2017 transfer signing from Real Madrid.

Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “No disrespect to Morata but I think he’s probably thinking and saying to the manager really ‘I want to play with this fella more often than not’.”

The former Reds defender, who was still active when Hazard moved to Chelsea, also said some superlative things about Hazard.

“I think Hazard is the best player in the Premier League,” Carragher added.

“What I mean by that is, [Kevin] De Bruyne and [Mohamed] Salah were the best players last season, I’m talking over a four or five-year period if I think “who’s the man?”. I do, I think he’s fantastic.”

Carragher also expressed his belief that Hazard should have won the Golden Ball award at the World Cup.

“I think he was the best player at the World Cup. I should say that, I think he should have won player of the tournament, but he’s been used really well by the manager.”

Eden Hazard and Chelsea, who have matched Liverpool in winning all of their first five matches this Premier League season, return to domestic action on Sunday, when they’ll face West Ham United.
