In the past week or so it finally became an exciting summer at Chelsea. Who will be the next to join manager Maurizio Sarri and midfielder Jorginho as new arrivals this summer? Who will be heading out the Stamford Bridge exit door?
Let’s take a spin through the latest news stories, transfer rumors and gossip making the rounds on the internet today. As always, until it’s actually an officially done deal, take the rumors with a grain of salt.
-Russian World Cup hero and CSKA Moscow midfielder Alexsandr Golovin has been heavily linked to Chelsea for quite some time, and this weekend brought another potential signal
His club teammate Sergey Chepchugov went on Instagram and congratulated Golovin on his move to another club, hinting that it could be Chelsea. Football.London has a rough translation of the Instagram post at this link.
TeamTalk adds that Sarri: “tried to sign Golovin when he was in charge at Napoli and on Wednesday he said he wanted to add some quality to his central midfield.”
–Cesc Fabregas, who was left out of Spain’s World Cup roster, is looking for a fresh start under new manager Maurizio Sarri. He’s hoping the trip to Australia, where they’ll take on Perth Glory in a preseason friendly today, will provide an early opportunity to impress the new boss.
Not just for Fabregas, but for all of the 25 players who made the trip.
“It’s a new start for me and the players. With a new manager, we all need to prove ourselves,” Fabregas said. “We need to show him what we can do, that we deserve to play.
“We’re very excited about it.”
The rest of the preseason schedule shapes up like this- July 28 sees Chelsea will take on Inter Milan in Nice, a London derby versus Arsenal in Dublin on August 1 and then the Community Shield against Manchester City August 5 at Wembley.
-In the words of ’90s ska-punk band No Doubt “let’s end it on this, let’s end it on this:”
