When Christian Eriksen scored in the 11′ today of the London Derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea FC, it ended a very long scoreless streak for the Blues. Chelsea had gone six games, more than 550 minutes, without yielding a single goal, rolling up a +17 in differential over that period.
The Spurs lead did not last very long, as Pedro Rodriguez and Victor Moses had scoring strikes to help Chelsea secure a seventh-successive Premier League victory.
The victory kept Chelsea at the very top of the Premier League. With 31 points, they’re one ahead of second place Liverpool and Manchester City, who both have 30.
“I’m satisfied because this type of game is very difficult,” Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte told BT Sport. “We played against a very strong team, a tough game with high intensity.
“Tottenham started very well, then there was our reaction and I’m happy for this because it’s not easy to go 1-0 down at home in this type of game. Now it’s important to continue to work.”
Chelsea will now visit Manchester City next week, in what will no doubt be the headliner fixture of the weekend. Conte refused to get into league title talk though whenever he was asked.
“It’s too early, above all after this game, because this league is very tough,” Antonio Conte responded.
“Today Tottenham showed that in this league there are six, seven teams who can win the title. For us it’s important to continue this way to improve the confidence. It’s not easy when you go 1-0 down to have a good reaction against a tough team. For this reason I’m pleased but it’s important to think of the next game.”
