Chelsea FC midfielder N’Golo Kante took home the PFA Player of the Year Sunday night at a ceremony in London. He now succeeds his former teammate last season at Leicester City, Riyad Mahrez, for the honor.
“It’s a huge honour to be chosen by the other players,” Kante said. “It’s really special to get this award. My first two seasons have been very beautiful. We have to finish well but so far it’s a very good season.”
He beat out his teammate Eden Hazard, winner of the 2014-15 award, Man United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.
“I think we must be pleased for him,” said Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte of N’Golo Kante claiming the honor.
“We must be proud for him. It’s a great achievement.”
However, Conte believes that Kante can still reach an even higher ceiling.
“He’s working very hard and I think he’s improving a lot with these players. He’s a really good guy. He’s always available to work and improve his weaknesses. I hope to continue in this way. It’s important for him not to stop this will, this desire, to continue to improve himself.”
