It was reported earlier this week that Manager Malky Mackay would either be sacked by Cardiff City F.C. or forced to resign by the end of today’s match. So Malky MacKay would be dismissed from the Bluebirds one way or another. Yet here we are, Cardiff City lost to Liverpool 3-1 and he’s still here.
Mackay has been adamant that he will not resign. He has publicly said that he is steadfast and resolute in his position to never resign his post.
We also know that Cardiff City owner and Malaysian investor Vincent Tan did not speak with Malky Mackay at any point before or after the game today. And if Mackay is in fact sacked it won’t be on Saturday. It should also be noted that Mackay and his agent Raymond Sparkes met with League Managers Association Chief Richard Bevin at Anfield today.
Tan, who has the controlling interest in the Premier League side, was harshly criticized by Liverpool F.C. Coach Brendan Rogers; who vehemently defended the much embattled Malky Mackay. It’s been a 51 year wait for Cardiff to get her into the top flight; so it should be a season of celebration. Instead, it’s been a year of turmoil and strife. Mackay has a strained relationship with Tan, who replaced head of recruitment Iain Moody with an unknown 23-year-old and friend of his son. Mackay is a well-liked figure in the capital of Wales after leading the club to the Championship title last season, which got them promoted to the Premier League for the first time in their history.
