Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic scored the first goalkeeper goal of the 2013-14 English Premier League season.
And we have both a GIF and a video of Asmir Begovic performing this extremely rare feat on Saturday. Even more amazing, it happened just 12 seconds into the match against Southampton. With a luck bounce or two, it got past Southampton goaltender Artur Boruc.
Everton goaltender and part time EPL on NBC football analyst Tim Howard scored vs. Bolton in January, 2012. He’s not the only American goalie to score, Brad Friedel also accomplished the feat. By the way, Howard, the U.S. National Team Goalkeeper and former member of Manchester United, did a fine job calling the match.
Peter Schmeichel and Paul Robinson are the other two keepers in history of the Premier League to score.
Here’s Asmir Begovic putting it over the opposing goaltender’s head again in GIF form
