Happy New Year and thus Happy January transfer window everybody! Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez was bid on by Manchester City this past summer, but the two clubs were unable to hammer out a deal before the deadline passed. Now that the winter window is open, we have an opportunity again to see this transaction potentially happen.
City boss Pep Guardiola won’t rule it out. Asked whether his side will make a move this window, Guardiola responded:
“I don’t know. He is a player for Arsenal and I think he is going to stay there. We will have internal meetings and see what is for the best, but he is an Arsenal player and I think he will be (once the window closes).”
“Internal meetings” eh? Sounds like they might be preparing to launch another bid this winter window. At first glance, you might say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, as City are running away with the Premier League title this season. However, the injury to Gabriel Jesus, who will be out at least a month, possibly two, could open the door now to an Alexis move.
Yes, we are well aware that absolutely everybody else in the world has posited this same theory.
The counterpart to Pep Guardiola in this deal, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, has vacillated on the idea of selling Sanchez in January.
He’s made public comments saying that he’s available, as well as contradictory remarks indicating that he’s off the market. The last time he spoke about the situation was Saturday, and he was rather defensive.
