Arsene Wenger Says Criticism has Reached “Earthquake” Level

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is certainly no stranger to criticism, as the pitchforks have been out in full force for quite some time. The #WengerOut crowd have been very loud for a very long time already, but they’re making a ton of noise again following the club’s embarrassment in the League Cup final.

Wenger referred to the criticism as reaching “earthquake” levels. The Frenchman, who also said that he intends to see out his full contract extension, seems to believe that he deserves more credit than he is getting, given both his recent history in domestic cups and the run his club made this season in the EFL Cup.

“When you get to a final, it’s not guaranteed always that you win it. I’m quite amazed that it’s such an earthquake that we have lost a final, that means we got our fans used to going to Wembley and to win it,” Wenger said. “but no one can guarantee that.”

“You have to accept as well that we played against a quality team. That’s why I speak about taking a little bit perspective of the game as well. First of all, 85 percent of the big games are decided by the first goal. Once you are down 1-0 against a team of that calibre, you know you have a hell of a task.”

The Frenchman, who maintains that he’ll stay put to see out the remainder of his two year contract extension didn’t just blast the fans. He took a swipe at the officials, just like he’s been doing all season long.

Wenger added: “And the second goal, incidentally, that was offside for me, makes of course a big difference in a game like that.”

It’s a rough time to be a Gunners supporters right now, as rough as it’s been for awhile.
