Arsene Wenger says Arsenal’s January transfer activity is done

Arsenal had a mostly dull, largely uneventful summer transfer window that was heavily criticized by sports writers everywhere. Given that Arsene Wenger didn’t sign a single outfield player in the summer, you can understand why their transfer activity earned an F on many a transfer window report card.

Today, however that lack of transfer action looks more intelligent as the Gunners are the current consensus Premier League title favorites.

They’re just three points behind Leicester City for the top of the table.

The January signing period has been relatively quiet too. Mohamed Elneny was the only addition made by Arsene Wenger. (Here’s a link to a scouting report on him). Elneny actually used to regularly sleep with a ball. Here’s more on that.

And Wenger said today that the club won’t be making any more additions between now and the expiration of the transfer window deadline.

When asked about the potential of more players arriving Wenger responded:

“No, not at the moment.”

“We have 23 players in training – and plus two is 25 – so unless people go out we are not on the verge of bringing anybody in.”

That’s kind of what we expected, given that the window closes in a couple days, and the Gunners haven’t really been strongly linked to any more new players.

Wenger was speaking to the media today ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Burnley tomorrow.

  1. It is really sad that the experience of twelve successive years of failure for Arsenal to win the championship that Wenger has not learned the lesson and still signing one unknown players for five million to save the money and that in reality is leading Arsenal to lose more many and tarnishes Arsenal reputation and image.
