Losing the Audi Cup to Lyon was no big deal for Arsenal FC, as it was just a preseason friendly. Losing stellar forward Alexandre Lacazette to injury, perhaps for a substantial amount of time, certainly is however. Luckily though for Lacazette, his side and their supporters, the Frenchman’s setback isn’t serious.
Lacazette, who was second on the club in scoring last season, hobbled off during the first half of play against his former club on the weekend, replaced by Reiss Nelson. An injured ankle limited him to just 12 minutes if action and sent a scare through the team and fan base.
He was then spotted in the Arsenal dugout wearing a protective boot.
It appears he’ll be just fine. Here’s more via NBC Sports:
Asked when he would be back Lacazette said “soon” and when pressed on whether it would be two weeks out, he said “no, before that.”
With that said, don’t expect to see him in either of the Gunners’ final two preseason tune-ups. There is certainly no reason to risk in France against Angers on Wednesday night at the Stade Jean-Bouin. Ditto for the Joan Gamper Trophy match at Barcelona on August 4.
Lacazette needs to just be healed up and ready to go when the north London side kicks off their 2019-20 Premier League season, one week later, at Newcastle United on August 11.
