Arsenal Forward Olivier Giroud is obviously not the most popular or productive player on the Gunners roster, but he is the winner of the FIFA Puskas Award.
It honors the most beautiful goal of the year, and Giroud has triumphed due to his scorpion kick against Crystal Palace on New Year’s day. He beat out Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos and South African keeper Oscarine Masuluke.
Here’s that goal by the way, you’ll want to watch it over and over and over again:

Upon acceptance of his award, Olivier Giroud said: “First of all I have to say it’s an honor for me. I’m delighted to receive this trophy today in front of legends of football. Now l’d just like to thank the people who voted for me. I would like to congratulate the 10 nominees who scored amazing goals too.”
“Obviously I would like to thank my teammates, without them I couldn’t score maybe this goal, and my family.”
