Arsenal FC have just announced the signing of holding midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria. The deal, reportedly worth €30 million, was confirmed back on June 20 by Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero. The delay between that confirmation and Arsenal’s announcement today is due to Torreira’s World Cup campaign with Uruguay.
Torreira helped his country reach the quarterfinals in Russia, where they were eliminated by France. After Uruguay was bounced from the tournament, he flew to London to finalize the deal.

“In Lucas Torreira, we have signed a young player who is a very bright talent in the game,” reads a statement attributed to head coach Unai Emery on the club’s official website.
“A midfielder with great quality, I have enjoyed watching his performances for Sampdoria in the past two seasons, and we all saw him do very well for Uruguay in the World Cup. He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing. We welcome Lucas to Arsenal and look forward to him joining us soon for pre-season.”
Arsenal now have their fourth addition of the summer transfer window/Unai Emery era. Torreira joins Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, Borussia Dortmund center back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner as newly acquired Gunners in 2018.
Reshaping the midfield was certainly one of the major priorities this transfer window in north London, and Torreira certainly helps in that regard.
That feeling when you sign for the Arsenal ?
