Aaron Ramsey Reportedly Set to Stay at Arsenal FC Until Contract Expiration

Arsenal FC midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been at the top or near the top of every publication’s “players most likely to move this January transfer window” list, and for good reason. The north London side did an about face on his contract extension talks this past September, and if they don’t ship him out between now and the end of the month, they’ll lose him for nothing in the summer.

Meanwhile Italian powerhouse Juventus has made their intentions and their interest clear. According to an ESPN report today though, no transfer involving Ramsey is going to happen until the summer.

“Aaron Ramsey is prepared to stay at Arsenal until his contract runs out at the end of the season and resist any offers of a move during the January transfer window,” ESPN FC’s Mark Ogden writes.

Juve are considered the favorite to acquire him, but Bayern Munich and Liverpool are reportedly in the mix as well. While Ramsey’s agent is already free to negotiate with teams abroad, as it is after January 1, any domestic club must wait until after June 1. However, it was reported several months ago that Ramsey is open to a potential move to one of the big six rivals– so don’t rule out the idea of his staying in England.

While Aaron Ramsey doesn’t appear to be a part of new manager Unai Emery’s vision for the Arsenal midfield, his departure would be very unpopular with supporters. Ramsey is a favorite among the Arsenal fan base.

Of course, it’s worth noting that even if Ogden’s sources are right, things could still change a lot between now and the end of the month. Transfers are of course, a very fluid situation.

  1. This is also according to Ramsey and Emery who’ve both publicly stated the above. Arsenal’s stance is that Ramsey is worth more value to the club staying until the end of the season than anything they may be able to recoup in terms of transfer fee.

This was Late November news I’m pretty sure…
