As expected, Notre Dame Quarterback Everett Golson has transferred to Florida State. Golson graduated from school this past spring semester and graduates this May. Therefore under NCAA rules, he will enroll as a graduate student in Tallahassee and play immediately next fall.
Golson made a statement saying he “can’t wait to get started.”
After missing the 2013 football season due to academic issues, Golson put up some great numbers in 2014, completing 256 of his 427 passes (.599) for 3,445 yards (ninth nationally to end the regular season) and 29 touchdowns (ninth nationally). He also ran for 283 yards and a team-leading eight TDs, was responsible for 224 points (seventh nationally) and ranked 15th nationally in total offense (302.7 yards per game) after the regular season.
Of course, he also put one number that almost negates all of that: 22 turnovers (second nationally) in 12.5 games. Which led to his losing the starting job for the bowl game.
Both Everett Golson and Malik Zaire played in the Music City Bowl, and Zaire looked better. Of course, that is just one game, and the opposing defense was clearly not themselves. It could be that the LSU Tigers were very distracted by the belief that their Defensive Coordinator John Chavis was leaving for Texas A&M.
Nevertheless, the news of Everett Golson leaving ND to go play at FSU certainly would reinforce the idea that Zaire beat him out for the starting gig in South Bend.
