Harry Kane May Not Return Until Final Two Games, Says Jose Mourinho

Tottenham talisman Harry Kane has been out of action since rupturing a tendon in his left hamstring against Southampton FC on New Year’s Day. He’s since had surgery to repair his injured hamstring, but he’s still in danger of missing the entirety of what remains of Spurs’ season.

It had been thought that he’d be back for April, but Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho gave a not so promising update today during his news conference ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup 4th round replay against Southampton FC.

Tottenham Starting XI Prediction vs Southampton FC (FA Cup Replay)

Tottenham Hotspur hosts Southampton FC in a FA Cup fourth round replay Wednesday night that will mark the fourth meeting this season between the two sides. It’s been a very evenly matched series in 2019-20 with the home side winning the Premier League fixture by one goal each time.

Obviously, the reverse fixture in the FA Cup ended in a stalemate and hence we’re here for the replay, making it so that Spurs and Saints each have a win, a loss and a draw against one another this term. Spurs are coming off a high into this one having beaten the juggernaut that is Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday. They’re brimming with confidence right now so let’s take a look at what kind of team Jose Mourinho might field as he looks to get his side through to the fifth round.

Tottenham vs Southampton Team News (FA Cup): Alli, Bergwijn, Armstrong

dele alli

Steven Bergwijn announced his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur with authority, making his presence felt immediately by scoring the game winning goal yesterday against Manchester City. The January transfer window addition has become an immediate fan favorite in the process, but he is ineligible for Spurs’ match, Wednesday night at home against Southampton FC in the FA Cup.

That’s because this is a fourth round replay, and FA Cup rules state a player must have been available in the first tie in order to feature in the replay. He won’t be the only key player absent, as midfielder Dele Alli is a slight doubt, having been the recipient of a really severe tackle from Raheem Sterling on Sunday.

Manchester City Starting XI Prediction at Tottenham Hotspur

The rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho was electric when the two bosses were managing in Spain, but it didn’t replicate itself while both were in Manchester. With Mourinho now moved on to Tottenham Hotspur, we’ll see if it comes back.

Don’t bet on it though. At his news conference yesterday, the Manchester City manager gave his take on why the rivalry has cooled off somewhat.  “Maybe we are older and more experienced. I don’t know,” the Spaniard said.

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction vs Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur were a consensus winner this January transfer window. They signed two new players that filled a position of need and they jettisoned two players who really didn’t want to be at White Hart Lane anymore. Spurs had a January that saw both addition by subtraction and addition by addition.

The one thing they didn’t accomplish was find a stop gap solution to the void left by Harry Kane’s injury, but overall it was a solid and productive window.

Tottenham vs Man City Team News: Bergwijn, Fernandinho, Laporte, Mendy

Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur is this weekend’s only all-big six clash in the Premier League, but it probably isn’t the true headliner fixture. That honor belongs to the Chelsea-Leicester City draw at the King Power Stadium earlier today.

This match still has plenty of relevance and excitement though, so let’s break down the team news for both sides, starting with Tottenham. Spurs had a great January transfer window as they signed Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes who will bring more fire to a side that has spent too much of this season coasting. It is expected that Bergwijn, fresh off a £26.7m move from PSV Eindhoven, will be involved here.

Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News: Danny Rose, Kyle Walker-Peters

danny rose

As we enter into the final hours of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have been pretty busy, both with incomings and out-goings. Yesterday saw Spurs bring in their second addition (after Gedson Fernandes) with the pick-up of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Steven Bergwijn.

We’re also seeing the clear-out of surplus players (as well as those who just don’t want to be here) too. Kyle Walkers-Peters joined Christian Eriksen (Inter Milan) in heading out the exit door. The 22-year-old, who can play on either side in the back line on the outside has joined Southampton FC on loan for the remainder of the season. And Danny Rose has just finalized a loan move to Newcastle United.

Tottenham Announce Second January Signing: Midfielder Steven Bergwijn

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the arrival of their second player this January transfer window (Gedson Fernandes being the first), and it’s Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven. The 22-year-old midfielder arrives for a fee of €31 million plus another €4m in add-ons.

The second addition of the Jose Mourinho era, Bergwijn helps provide depth for a side that is very injury ravaged right now. He was part of three Eredivisie title-winning teams during his time in the Netherlands, where he scored 31 goals during his 149 appearances with the club.

Jose Mourinho Takes Swipe at United Over Bruno Fernandes Transfer Saga

Jose Mourinho may have lost his first and only game against Manchester United since the club sacked him, but he did land a pretty hard jab against his most recent former club. On one hand, now is not the time for the Portugese to be throwing shade at Old Trafford, given how Tottenham, his current side, are still looking up to them in the standings, albeit on tie-breaker.

On the other hand, the United transfer saga with Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes has become laughably protracted, and annoyingly tedious. The failure of the two sides to finally get this deal done is easy fodder for criticism.

Christian Eriksen Moving Closer to Leaving Tottenham, Joining Inter Milan

This is definitely something that should have happened in the summer, but hey, better late than never. Tottenham Hotspur winger/playmaking midfielder Christian Eriksen, who’s been openly pining for a move away since the end of last season, is finally nearing his much anticipated exit.

The Dane is set to join Inter Milan, with his agent believing things could get finalized tomorrow, according to a report from La Repubblica. Via Siempreinter, “Inter have already reached an agreement in principle with Eriksen over a four and a half year contract.”

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction at Watford FC

Tottenham Hotspur have made their first addition of the January transfer window, with the announcement and unveiling of midfielder Gedson Fernandes earlier today. He will probably feature on Saturday, when Spurs visit Watford in the first game of the next Premier League weekend.

Don’t expect him to start however. Spurs’ visit to Watford is sneaky tough. Not only is momentum going against them, but their opponent now has an unforeseen advantage when it comes to rest and relaxation.

Tottenham Hotspur at Watford FC Team News, Match Preview

The wheels have really come off for Tottenham Hotspur as of late. The Jose Mourinho bump has dissipated, and they currently sit in eighth place, nine points out of the top four. And one should not expect anything to drastically improve any time soon, given how they’re still dealing with a quintet of long term injuries to star players.

That list again, in no particular order: Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, Ben Davies, Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko. Hey, at least they beat Middlesbrough last night in the FA Cup third round replay, and are moving on in that competition. Up next for Spurs is a trip to Watford FC where they will take on a suddenly surging Hornets side.
