Mauricio Pochettino Conveys Major Venue Issues for Scheduled Man City Game

On Monday, Tottenham Hotspur announced another delay in the opening of their new home stadium at White Hart Lane. The new venue, which was had been slated to open in early-mid September will now be delayed until mid-late October at the earliest. Thus, Spurs moved home games against Liverpool on Sept. 15 and Cardiff City on Oct. 6 to Wembley Stadium, the ground that has served as their temporary home until Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is ready.

On October 28, Spurs will host Manchester City, but where as of yet is still to be determined. They can’t play at Wembley, because a National Football League game is slated to the national stadium that day.

New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Increases Chances of a London Super Bowl

tottenham hotspur football club

It couldn’t happen until 2025 at the earliest, but the chances of the NFL potentially staging a Super Bowl in London someday increase with the coming advent of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 62,062 capacity venue at White Hart Lane will open Sept 15, about a month or so after its target date, but its design includes facilities that directly support American football, in addition to English football (soccer).

According to Sports Illustrated, the National Football League put $13.3 million toward its approximate £350-£400 ($600) million construction costs. From the locker rooms to the retractable field (among the many other new bells and whistles), Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was constructed to support both English Premier League and National Football League action, even on the same day, according to their stated plans.

Tottenham Hotspur Technically End their Trophy Drought (Sort Of)

It’s now official- Tottenham Hotspur have ended their nearly a decade trophy drought; well sort of. Kind of. Maybe. Like our friends at Spurs for Life say, no signings, no problem. Tottenham accumulated more points than any other club who participated in the 2018 International Champions Cup, a series of preseason exhibition friendlies that included 18 European clubs competing in several different countries.

When Inter Milan failed to beat Atletico Madrid by a big enough goal differential yesterday, the result confirmed Spurs as “winners” of the ICC.

Tottenham Hotspur Summer Transfer Window Synopsis, Analysis, Grade

mauricio pochettino

While Tottenham Hotspur waited until the tail end of the 2017 summer transfer window to get their business done, a big splash was made when they finally did decide to spend. Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy, the man who is in control here regarding White Hart Lane’s (non) participation in the transfer market, authorized a club record signing of Davinson Sanchez for £42 million last summer, and then spent another £47 million on Serge Aurier, Fernando Llorente, Juan Foyth and Paulo Gazzaniga.

In 2018, this pattern did not repeat itself. With Burnley acquiring Joe Hart on Tuesday, Tottenham finished as the only Premier League club not to make a single transfer window buy.

premier league

The new Premier League season kicks off in earnest this weekend, and Manchester United hosts Leicester City in the curtain raiser tomorrow night. Will we finally see a repeat league champion? It hasn’t happened since a Cristiano Ronaldo led United side accomplished the feat in 2008-09, the final year of a three peat for Sir Alex Ferguson’s juggernaut.

Looking at the record setting season that Manchester City just accomplished, plus the fact that they have strengthened this off-season, we’re picking Pep Guardiola to accomplish something that no one has been able to do in close to a decade.

Tottenham Hotspur 2018-19 Season Preview, Predictions

mauricio pochettino

In previewing the 2018-19 Tottenham Hotspur season, one must start with their silent summer in the transfer market. It hasn’t been just a quiet transfer window at White Hart Lane, it’s been total radio silence. With Joe Hart officially leaving Manchester City for Burnley today, Spurs are now the only Premier League club not to make a single addition this window.

It could be worse though- they also have not sold a single senior team player, and thus return the same exact team which has established stability within the top four.

Tottenham Hotspur Summer Transfer Window Has Been Utterly Lifeless

Tottenham Hotspur will open their impressive and shiny new home this season, but the team on the pitch likely won’t include a single new player. Spurs have yet to add anybody to their roster this summer transfer window, while the rest of the entire big six has spent money to strengthen their sides.

To their credit, Tottenham has locked down their manager Mauricio Pochettino to a long term contract, and also given contract extensions to their most important players. The north London club has scored some “own goals” with these moves, but you know what the bromide says- if you’re standing still, you’re actually falling behind.
