Harry Kane Nearing Match Fitness Says Mauricio Pochettino

harry kane

The gruesome ankle injury that Harry Kane suffered in the home loss to Manchester United on January 13 was initially regarded to be serious enough that it would keep him out of action until at least March. Speaking ahead of the Sunday’s home fixture against Leicester City, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said that Kane is recovering quickly and that he’s nearing a return to match fitness.

While Pochettino ruled him out of the weekend match versus the Foxes, and next Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 battle against Borussia Dortmund, he said Kane might be in contention for the league clash at Burnley on the 23rd.

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction vs Leicester City

Once it was learned that they were to be without their two brightest stars in Harry Kane and Dele Alli, many expected Tottenham Hotspur to tumble down the table. However, they have won four of their last five and currently sit just five points off the pace for first place in the Premier League. Getting Son Heung-min back from the Asian Cup has been a tremendous boost, and Spurs are favored in their next league fixture, which is at home against Leicester City on Sunday.

The Foxes are without a win in their last five, and they were recently dumped out of the FA Cup by Newport. However, Leicester have been stronger than most teams in the league against the big six clubs, so this weekend fixture could be dangerous for Spurs.

Tottenham vs Leicester City Injury Report: Kane, Alli, Davies, Amartey, Albrighton

leicester city

Tottenham Hotspur host Leicester City in a matchup of the 2015-16 Premier League champions, and the last team that stood in the way of their 5,000-1 long shot glory. The Foxes currently sit 11th in the table, but they have been an exceedingly dangerous team for the proverbial big six clubs to play lately.

Leicester lost to Manchester United last weekend, but they battled Liverpool to a draw in the previous fixture, beat league leaders Manchester City on Boxing Day, and defeated top four side Chelsea four days prior to that. Mauricio Pochettino will certainly not be taking Leicester lightly, although Spurs do have the self-assurance of having won the reverse fixture 2-0 in early December.

Mauricio Pochettino Should Be United Boss if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Not Appointed, Says Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer, has weighed in on who he believes should be the club’s next full time manager. Since taking over for the sacked Jose Mourinho on December 18, interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has nine wins and one draw in ten games.

United have acquired 22 points in eight league games under Solskjaer, having accrued only 26 in the 17 outings under Mourinho. Rooney believes the Norwegian, known as the “baby-faced assassin” during his playing days, deserves the chance to be the full time boss. Given the way the team in playing right now, he may indeed get his shot.

pep guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has challenged the current media narrative that the Premier League title race is a two horse race between his side and league leaders Liverpool. Guardiola met the media today ahead of tomorrow night’s league fixture at Everton, and he was asked about Tottenham Hotspur’s title prospects.

“That’s a question for yourself,” Guardiola answered. “I never said Tottenham is not [in the race], I never made an opinion about that. I never said Tottenham was not there. Or Chelsea.”

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction vs Newcastle United

When Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken to the media lately, he’s gotten away from the industry standard platitudes and coachspeak. He’s been welcomingly candid, and sometimes unfairly criticized for being so. Today will see the end of the third straight transfer window in which Tottenham has not added a single new player.

For Pochettino, it must be difficult to be so hamstrung by a board that won’t allocate any funds for beefing up the roster. Pochettino recently admitted that his club just can’t compete financially with Liverpool, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

dele alli

Newcastle United head to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in a match-up of two sides that are very injury riddled, but still feeling pretty confident. For Newcastle, they were the lead story of the day in the football world on Tuesday as they upset reigning league champions Manchester City.

For Tottenham, they were able to take care of a pretty good Watford side in midweek, despite being without their biggest of guns. Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has a taken a refreshingly honest approach to his recent media opportunities, making blunt comments about the club’s competitive priorities and the competitive disadvantage they face when juxtaposed against Liverpool and Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino Vents Frustration with Tottenham Financial Limitations

mauricio pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino certainly seems to be telling it like it is much more lately. Perhaps he really is keeping one eye on the potential to move to Manchester United, a club that reportedly has him in their cross-hairs? Pochettino has gotten further and further away from press conference platitudes in the past week, and whether or not you agree with what he has to say, you have to respect his integrity and brutal honesty.

His comments last week about the club’s lack of recent history are spot on. Poch’s team is not linked in transfer rumors to anybody this January window, which comes to an end tomorrow. It’s looks almost certain that THFC will complete their third straight transfer window without buying even a single player.

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction vs Watford FC

mauricio pochettino

A lot of people in the football world disliked the commentary made by Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino after his side crashed out of the FA Cup over the weekend, but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp isn’t one of them. The Reds boss said that Pochettino is in the right for prioritizing the Premier League above the domestic cup competitions.

“You need money for improving a football team, we cannot change that. It’s not the only way but it’s a big thing,” Klopp said at his prematch press conference today.
