Chelsea Star Mason Mount Named to Golden Boy Award Short List

Italian media outlet Tuttosport hand out the Golden Boy Award every season, and today brought the release of the nominee short list. To qualify for the award, a footballer must be U21 and play in one of Europe’s top tier leagues.

One fifth of the list, which is 20 names long, is comprised by English Premier Leaguers, with Arsenal, Everton and Manchester City and Chelsea represented. The Blues representative is one of the most intriguing, because it’s a player who was with a Championship level side last season- Mason Mount. Frank Lampard brought the budding superstar with the Vanilla Ice style hairdo up to Stamford Bridge with him, and he’s been in a revelation in west London.

Three Worst Transfer Mistakes Arsene Wenger Made

By Jason Verduzco

Arsene Wenger enjoyed a glittering managerial record while at Arsenal. He won three Premier League titles, and seven FA Cup’s during his spell in North London and ensured that the Gunners went into the season as one of the favourites to claim the top prize.

Arsenal FC Team News, Starting XI Prediction vs Bournemouth

Arsenal gave a 4-0 thrashing of Belgian side Standard Liege yesterday, and all the talk was about teenager Gabriel Martinelli, who scored Arsenal’s first two goals just 131 seconds apart. It was the second time Martinelli bagged a brace in his past three matches, as he also scored twice in Arsenal’s 5-0 rout over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup last month.

He’s yet to feature in a league fixture, and if he keeps producing like this, Arsenal manager Unai Emery will have no choice but to give him a chance. The timing is certainly right, as forward Alexandre Lacazette continues rehabbing from an ankle injury.

Public Beef Between Aubameyang and Borussia Dortmund Brass Escalates

pierre-emerick aubameyang

Who wants some public beef as we enter the final weekend of play before the second international break? Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and the leadership of his former employer, Borussia Dortmund, are in the midst of a hostile, public back-and-forth.

Arsenal signed the Gabon international from Dortmund for a then club record fee (it has since been broken twice) of £56 million in January 2018. According to Spotrac, he signed a 4-year £32,760,000 contract with the Arsenal, including an annual average salary of £8,190,000.

Unai Emery Says Kieran Tierney Will Play in UEL Clash Tomorrow

Full back Kieran Tierney was linked to Arsenal all summer long, but didn’t make the transfer from Celtic to Arsenal until the 11th hour of the window. Due to injury, the 22-year-old didn’t make his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt until last week’s rout of Nottingham Forest in the League Cup.

In other words, there has been a lot of anticipation and build-up preceding the left-back’s arrival on the pitch. He’ll see some time again in a cup competition, when Standard Liege visits the Emirates Stadium to battle Arsenal in Europa League action tomorrow.

Arsenal FC Starting XI Prediction, Team News vs Standard Liege (UEL)

Monday night saw Manchester United and Arsenal play to a blah 1-1 draw that served as a sharp reminder about just how far both sides fallen from the top. Both clubs might want to start prioritizing the Europa League competition a bit more. Arsenal have missed out on Champions League the past three seasons, and winning this tournament might be their best route back to the big boy table of Europe.

Up next is a visit from Standard Liege in UEL group stage play. Let’s take a look at the Gunners team news, and make a prediction on what Unai Emery’s first team could be.

Unai Emery Evades Query on why He Left Mesut Ozil Out of Squad

Since Unai Emery succeeded Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, Mesut Ozil, the team’s highest paid player, has found himself out of favor. The £350,000-a-week midfielder has often been benched, with a fitness excuse for that decision sometimes being provided.

Other times, Emery has said little to nothing beyond “it’s tactical,” or other words to that effect. Today, however, Emery dropped Ozil entirely, and when pressed on why, didn’t even bother to give an explanation or justification. It’s pretty obvious now that Emery and Arsenal don’t even want to bother pretending anymore. Watch this pregame interview of the Gunners manager below:

Arsenal FC Starting XI Prediction at Manchester United

And so the era of Granit Xhaka captaincy at Arsenal begins Monday night when the Gunners travel to Manchester United. The results are in, via a squad vote, and the midfielder will be the head of the captaincy group. No doubt this is going to polarize opinion within the Arsenal fan base, a supporter group that has been very passionate in public lately.

Manager Unai Emery has said that the wearer of the captain’s arm band won’t necessarily be granted an automatic place in the first team. Minutes must be earned, but for our prediction purposes here, we slotted in Xhaka in the first 11.

Manchester United Starting XI Prediction vs Arsenal FC

In their league fixture Monday night, at home against Arsenal, Manchester United are slight favorites. However, the big picture outlook for the club is rather bleak. How did we get here? Is manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer really that much out of his depth here? Given how the problems go well beyond just him and his roster (specifically ceo Ed Woodard, who is not a football guy, having so much power), is his seat warming?

After barely escaping versus minnows in cup competition the past two weeks, registering only a draw at a dreadful Southampton side and suffering the first ever home Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace already this season, how badly does Solskjaer need a win here?

Arsenal FC Team News vs Man United: Xhaka, Lacazette, Smith Rowe

Arsenal manager Unai Emery held his weekly news conference today, ahead of the big Monday night clash at Manchester United. The main takeaway from the session was a revelation on why Granit Xhaka will be the new head of the captaincy group for the rest of the season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil are the remaining members of the captaincy group, but there will be a hierarchy, according to the Spaniard. A player vote was the process, with the 27-year-old Swiss midfielder topping the poll.

Manchester United host Arsenal Monday night in what is the only all-big six clash of this Premier League weekend. The Red Devils come in to this one with an injury crisis up top, and with loads of short and long term issues to fix. The Red Devils currently sit eighth in the table, four places and three points behind the visitors.

Worse yet, they have a lot of negative momentum right now as United needed penalties to escape against minnows Rochdale in midweek EFL cup competition. The previous week they barely survived against another smaller club, FC Astana, in the UEL.

Solskjaer, Man United in Dire Straits as Arsenal Fixture Draws Near

Manchester United host Arsenal Monday night in what will be the final Premier League fixture of the weekend. The Red Devils will come in to this one reeling, in both the short and long term. The club currently sits eighth in the league table, and they needed penalties to escape against tiny minnows Rochdale in midweek League Cup competition.

Last week they barely survived against another much smaller club, Kazakh side FC Astana, in the Europa League. They have a lot of negative momentum as this all-big six fixture approaches, but a lot of projection makers are still bullish on their prospects in this one.
