Manchester United News and Notes: Solskjaer, De Gea, Fernandes

Chelsea FC hosted Manchester United at Stamford Bridge with the two sides playing to a nil-nil draw in which nobody lost, technically. Except for those who watched it. It was boring, most certainly, as the two English giants clubs have now finished their league meetings with over 180 minutes played with no goals scored.

It’s hard to make a case that the United of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are more compelling and entertaining than how they were under Louis van Gaal or Jose Mourinho. (For the Chelsea news and notes go here) Take a look at the tweet below, it really says it all:

Chelsea FC News and Notes: Hudson-Odoi, Pulisic, Tuchel, Abraham

Chelsea hosted Manchester United on Sunday, and the two sides played to a goalless draw in which there were no losers, except for anyone who tuned in and expected entertainment.

This was dull, no doubt about it and there a ton of reasons for that, many of which are spotlighted in the piece published on Goal, linked below. It’s a good read and I suggest you read it some time. The two big six clubs have now completed their league series with over 180 minutes played and no goals scored. (For the United news and notes go here)

Thomas Tuchel Says Loss to Man United in ’19 UCL Sent Him to ‘dark place’

Tomorrow brings another face-off between managers Thomas Tuchel and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In October 2019, Tuchel, then leading Paris Saint-Germain, became the first manager to lose a Champions League knockout round tie at home after having gone up 2-0 in the away leg.

It was Solskjaer’s United that beat him, in a match that essentially got OGS the eventual upgrade from interim to full time manager. Probably still the Norwegian’s greatest triumph as United manager, on the side, Tuchel said it sent him on a downward spiral for a couple of days.

Lebron James Dunks on Zlatan Ibrahimovic for ‘Stick to Sports’ Bit

LeBron James

You knew Lebron James wasn’t going to take a “stick to sports” or “just shut up and dribble” from Zlatan Ibrahmovic lying down. On Thursday, Ibrahimovic said in an interview that James should stay out of politics and not use his very large platform for social issues like he has been doing repeatedly, and beautifully.

Ibrahmiovic said that people should only do what they’re good at it, and Friday saw Lebron answer to these accusations, and in the process call out Zlatan for his hypocrisy. James also said he’ll also never stop fighting for social justice., and against systemic racism.

Arsenal FC Predicted Starting XI at Leicester City

Arsenal are back in Premier League action as they travel to Leicester City on Sunday. It is certainly not going to be easy against a team that is overachieving once again and involved in the top four race until the end.

Leicester are one of the few teams left that still stand a chance of perhaps challenging Manchester City at the top of the table. They are a tough team to play against and they will make it difficult for the North Londoners to get anything from this game.

Things continue to get worse for Liverpool. After falling to Everton last weekend, Liverpool have fallen to sixth in the table, and level on points with the Toffees for seventh.

It makes Sunday’s meeting with bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United a must win for the Reds. It’s easier said than done for Liverpool, who have failed to win their last five matches against teams from the bottom third of the table. (for the LFC Starting XI go here)
