Real Madrid Sack Julen Lopetegui, but Antonio Conte Negotiations with Chelsea Complicated

julen lopetegui

The first step in Real Madrid regime change from Julen Lopetegui to Antonio Conte was completed today as the club officially sacked their manager. They did so with a rather classless statement, which included this very blunt passage:

“The Board of Directors understands that there is a great disproportion between the quality of the staff of Real Madrid, which has 8 players nominated for the next Golden Ball, something unprecedented in the history of the club, and the results obtained to date.”

Liverpool FC Owners Pay Respect to Lives Lost in Leicester Helicopter Crash

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha

It was routine on match days at the King Power Stadium to see the helicopter belonging to Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha take off from midfield after the contest was over. On Saturday however, this routine became devastation and tragedy. The helicopter lost power and plummeted to the parking lot where it crashed and burst into flames.

The Leicester City owner was one of five lives lost in the crash, and Sunday saw respects being paid from all over the world. Not just the soccer/football/futbol world, but everywhere in sports, moments of silence were held for the Thai billionaire, Leicester City football club and the LCFC community.

Normal for Mesut Ozil to be Angry After Being Subbed, Says Unai Emery

mesut ozil

Arsenal captain Mesut Ozil got angered when he was replaced by Danny Welbeck with 22 minutes left to go in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace yesterday. Just after the Gunners went up 2-1 on the hosts, Ozil was subbed off. He reacted by throwing his gloves to the ground in disgust before he took his seat on the bench.

Unai Emery said in postgame that this reaction is completely normal and that there is no problem with the attacking midfielder’s general attitude at all.

Former Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte to Replace Lopetegui at Real Madrid

Conventional wisdom had it that Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui needed to win El Clasico today in order to save his job. For Lopetegui and Madrid, the result was about as disastrous as possible. Barcelona crushed the reigning three time European champions 5-1, and that damage was done even without Lionel Messi.

Now, according to various outlets in two different countries  Lopetegui is to get the sack, and then be replaced by former Chelsea and Italy manager Antonio Conte. Nothing has been confirmed by the club as of yet, but Marca report that the embattled and struggling manager already said goodbye to his team “just in case.”

Maurizio Sarri Wants Eden Hazard Playing in Every Match Possible

eden hazard

No Eden Hazard, no problem for Chelsea FC today as they absolutely thrashed Burnley today 4-0. Star men for the Blues today included striker Alvaro Morata and midfielder Ross Barkley, two players who have regained their groove in recent games, finding once again the top form that had been eluding them, for one reason or another, for so long.

The duo have been major contributors to Chelsea’s hot start, with the west London side yet to suffer defeat in any competition this season. (Unless you count the Community Shield as regular season instead of preseason, but we do not). It’s a team game and a team effort, but Eden Hazard is their bonafide superstar.

Jose Mourinho Explains Why He Dropped Romelu Lukaku

romelu lukaku

Romelu Lukaku has not scored in eight games, and is thus currently suffering through the worst scoring drought of his time at Manchester United. That’s just unacceptable, to put it mildly, for a £75 million player. Although it’s not exactly all that shocking given his track record. Those who have worked with the Belgian have said that he’s prone to dry spells such as these.

What is surprising though is that 1.) he keeps scoring goals for his national side and

2.) his drought hasn’t come when United have been playing top competition.
