Mike Ditka has done a really fine job of exploiting one accomplishment 30 years ago and turning it into a second career as a mega-endorser of every product possible. Arsenal signing of Kim Kallstrom underwhelms boring deadline day


Arsenal fans may not be overwhelmed by the deadline day signing of Spartak Moscow’s Kim Kallstrom on loan until the end of the season but the experienced Swede clearly has some talent. Not as much talent as Julian Draxler, but what can you do? Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger said that Draxler was not coming, it was all a fabrication made up by the newspapers. But he also said this morning that the odds were 80-20 of new players coming in. I guess he meant just Kim Kallstrom.

Andros Townsend only Manchester United noise on transfer deadline day


Andros Townsend. That was pretty much the only noise on transfer deadline day for Manchester United. And that’s all it is- noise. The 22 year old winger was linked with David Moyes when he was at Everton, and he was linked with him now. But the Daily Mirror reports Moyes’ ambitious swap sending Nani to Tottenham failed. It looks like instead Nani could be headed to one of the Milans: Inter or AC.

The DePaul Blue Demons have an overall record of 10-11 and are 2-6 in Big East play. The slight improvement fans saw, after wins against Butler and St. John’s, has diminished. Has head coach Oliver Purnell’s opportunity at DePaul slammed shut?

Tottenham Hotspur lose out on Berbatov, lose Lewis Holtby


Tottenham Hotspur has seen one player leave White Hart Lane and lose out on one former player that they were targeting. The 32 year old Fulham Striker Dimitar Berbatov has completed his medical with AS Monaco, with the result coming in shortly. He was rumored to be returning to the Spurs, as well as linked with clubs outside of the Premiere League in Bulgaria.

But that’s not the only Tottenham Hotspur transfer news on this deadline day.

Arsene Wenger rules out Julian Draxler. Says 80% chance of new purchases


Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is confident he’ll bring in a new midfielder to boost his squad. Yesterday the word was that Arsenal are on the brink of sealing a £30m deal signing Julian Draxler after a productive round of talks, reports the Daily Mirror.

Arsene Wenger shot that down today. He says, it’s off’ but he also rates the chances of bringing in new players as 80-20. With midfielder, not striker the primary goal.

NFLPA supports cause of CAPA, Colter, Northwestern players


The NFLPA stands with the college football players seeking to create a collegiate association that would possess the power to collectively bargain. On Tuesday, history was made as CAPA (Collegiate Athletes Players Association) was unveiled to the public, and the NCAA had a quick combative response.

Kain Colter and an anonymous majority (as opposed to Richard M. Nixon’s “silent majority”) of  Northwestern football players took steps to form the first ever union for college athletes. The next step is February 6th, when the local chapter of the National Labor Relations Board will rule on the initiative in Chicago.

Theo Epstein’s minor league vision taking effect for Cubs


In Theo We Trust.  That should be the motto of Chicago Cubs’ fans after released its Top 100 minor league prospect list last week.  When Theo Epstein assumed the position of President of Baseball Operations prior to the 2012 season, he promised to build the Cubs’ minor league system into the premier one in baseball.

Shaq investing in local software company, promoting new app


Shaq has a new post playing career business venture. You obviously know and love Shaquille O’Neal the broadcaster on the NBA on TNT.

O’Neal has also recently become a shareholder and global brand ambassador with a local software start-up. Shaq is working with Chicago-based TIP Solutions, a company with patented call management technology.

Man United winger Nani to join Inter Milan on loan


Manchester United winger Nani looks set to join Inter Milan on an initial loan deal according to the Metro. This would completely contradict what Nani said in September when he said he turned down offers from other football clubs to sign a new long-term deal with Manchester United.
