Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur preview, prediction

Manchester United are starting to feel their groove now. Rumors of their demise have been quite exaggerated. They were middling squarely in mid-table for awhile, but now they’re in 6th place, and still with plenty of time to get back to the coveted top four.  As Manchester United are set to take on the Spurs, both teams have 34 points, and a body of work that reads 10-4-5. United of course will enter this match without striker Robin van Persie, among the many issues they’ve dealt with this season.

Of course, there are just a key January transfer window acquisition away from being potentially defending their league title. Especially if they make a couple good midfielder acquisitions.

Eagles LeSean McCoy: Barry Sanders of the 2010s

Is LeSean McCoy this generation’s Barry Sanders? The Philadelphia Eagles runner is easily the 2nd best running back in the NFC, and probably the NFL. Bob Costas of NBC had an exclusive with McCoy that aired during Sunday Night Football. The topic of Barry Sanders came up.

GRAPHIC: LA Lakers celebrity fans seating charts

An LA Lakers celebrity fans seating chart? Are you joking? No. Absolutely not. If I was joking I would have said “Q: Why does Snoop Dogg take an umbrella?  A: Fo Drizzle!”

Jack Nicholson is the most famous of LA Lakers celebrity fans, but there’s a whole lot more in the lower bowl than just him. Here’s a LA Lakers celebrity fans seating chart from The Hollywood Reporter, a close up, and then full details.

ESPN hires Tim Tebow for SEC Network, like or dislike?

I always thought Tim Tebow would have a career in public speaking; just not this type of public speaking. Tim Tebow the motivational speaker? I could see that being a successful entity. Tim Tebow the color analyst?

Well, ESPN disagrees with as they hired him to be a television analyst for SEC Network. He’ll make his debut during the National Title game a week from tonight.

Joey Galloway picking against his Buckeyes in Orange Bowl

ohio state joey galloway

Joey Galloway, former Ohio State Buckeyes and NFL star, and current ESPN analyst doesn’t have faith in his alma mater to get it done in Miami. Joey Galloway is picking against Urban Meyer in the Orange Bowl. The ESPN panel of “experts” released their selections for all of the BCS bowls and here are the results.

· In a matchup of top-five opponents – No. 5 Stanford grabbed 75 percent (12-of-16) of the votes to top No. 4 Michigan State in the Rose Bowl Game (Jan. 1, 5 p.m. ET).

· No. 6 Baylor is the favorite to beat No. 15 UCF in the Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 1, 8:30 p.m.) – 92.9 percent of the picks.

St. Louis Rams looking to trade #2 in NFL Draft

The St. Louis Rams have some decent pieces. More so on defense than offense, but overall there’s some talent. Of course, the St. Louis Rams are off in the new year, so that tells you they need a few more pieces to reach the postseason again. They have their #1 overall franchise QB in Sam Bradford, so although he’s no superstar, and he had a rough, injury plagued season, don’t expect the St. Louis Rams to go QB in round one of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Ten most popular NFL stories of ’13: Carrie Underwood represents

Like Eric Cartman, it’s time to do some “Faith Hilling.” When I first broke the story of Faith Hill being replaced by Carrie Underwood on Sunday Night Football, a day before it was announced, it was a page views bonanza.  But it was nowhere near as popular as when I reported Hill would no longer be with SNF on NBC. So instead of Faith Hilling, time for some Carrie Underwood -ing.

Yes, Carrie Underwooding. And other NFL stuff. Because like current ESPN NASCAR Analyst Brad Daugherty (yes, the very same North Carolina Tar Heels and Cleveland Cavaliers legend) told me this summer: “the NFL slaughters everything.”

Before we get started, here’s a NFL news scoop that’s bigger than Carrie Underwood,  Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears likely parting ways

It hit 10,000 page views in the first 12 hours minutes it was up! So it would rank in the top ten in less than a day.

Capt. Neckbeard Kyle Orton entering biggest game of his career

kyle orton

Kyle Orton, or “Captain Neckbeard” as local sports talk radio use to refer to him faces the biggest opportunity of his NFL career- win and you’re in. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is getting an epidural injection, back problems have ruled him out for the season. Although Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones and his little yes man Jason Garrett are still hanging on to hopes of otherwise. Regardless of who starts, Cowboys face the Eagles in Sunday Night Football on NBC, in a true de facto playoff game.

RELATED: Jay Cutler likely parting ways with the Chicago Bears

Ol’ Neckbeard may have given himself a shave since his days leading the Chicago Bears, but he’s still not great at playing the quarterback position at the highest level. Kyle Orton was also known for getting drunk during his days in Chicago, and letting himself get photographed in public being homeless level drunk.

Look at the this picture from the Twitter account of CBS Chicago blogger Tim Baffoe.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys: brutally honest preview

I can understand why people hate Philadelphia Eagles fans, but there’s not reason to hate the Philadelphia Eagles themselves. And of course, you got to love Chip Kelly. Or at least I do, ever since I have that special press conference moment with him at the Rose Bowl press conference. When he quasi-endorsed The Sports Bank.

Now the Philadelphia Eagles can make things rough for the evil empire that is the Dallas Cowboys. And all of America wants to see that.
