Cubs vs. Wrigleyville rooftop owners: more friction inevitable

wrigley-field

In the 2000s, the Chicago Cubs and the owners of the rooftops surrounding Wrigley Field had quite a tiff going on. The Cubs put up fences in the bleachers blocking the view of the Wrigleyville rooftops, so the rooftop owners built their seats higher above it. Then the ballclub put up another screen blocking the view, claiming it was for “post 9/11 security screens.” After years of squabbling they settled on the small business owners giving them 17%.

You can see how both sides have a point- the local businesses help build the Wrigleyville neighborhood up from dangerous ghetto on the outskirts to trendy, adult playground. The Cubs have a point in that someone else is directly profiting off their product. Well the years of detente are over and it looks like there’s going to be another battle over revenue between the two interests.

Northwestern upsets #12 Gophers, in front of very poor student showing

nu-student-section

Every year Northwestern Wildcats basketball beats a couple ranked teams during the Big Ten slate. So whenever they play someone good at home you want to be there so you can see a big event, right? Like when the fans stormed the court after taking down a top ten Michigan State team last year. Well the “Wildside” student section doesn’t seem to think so. They hardly showed up at all two home games ago when NU lost even uglier than it sounds, 70-51 to the Iowa Hawkeyes. And they didn’t come out last night either.

Wes Welker’s wife Anna Burns takes shot at Ray Lewis

anna-burns

The New England Patriots Wes Welker, ex-party man and greatest slot receiver in NFL history is married to Hooters hottie Anna Burns.

Burns, a former Miss Hooters International 2005, took a verbal shot after the Patriots loss in the AFC title game yesterday. You might remember something similar last year. Last year, it was supermodel and UNEP ambassador Gisele Bundchen, wife of quarterback Tom Brady, who said her husband could not throw and catch the ball at the same time, an obvious shot at Wes Welker who dropped a key pass in the Super Bowl. Yesterday, Welker again had a key drop on a key third down, but he also caught 8 balls for 117.

This year it’s Welker’s wife firing at the Baltimore Ravens Ray Lewis after his team eliminated the Pats.

New England Patriots Skill Position Guys: Extremely White

rob gronkowski_bibi jones

The New England Patriots and Duke Blue Devils have a lot in common- east coast powerhouse, dynastic programs. Both are a very popular/polarizing brand; best embodied by their Mt. Rushmore level Coach (Bill Belichick and Mike Krzyzewski) who inspires both admiration and hatred. They sit in similar pedestals in their respective worlds of college basketball and the NFL.

This year, the Pats have yet another trait in common with Duke: white players everywhere, in places you don’t often see Caucasians. If you’re a white, blue-chip hoops recruit, you’re most likely going to Duke. If you’re white and good, but not elite, you might be headed to Wisconsin, Butler or Notre Dame.

And in 2012-13, if you’re a white receiver or tailback, you might be a Patriot.
