Now we know why Wisconsin played QB Tanner McEvoy all game in the loss to LSU. The true starting QB, Joel Stave, is lost indefinitely. He’s shut down for a very long time, and don’t be shocked if he doesn’t return at all this season.
UW head coach Gary Andersen announced Tuesday, regarding Joel Stave:
“Joel has been dealing with some issues with his throwing shoulder for the last couple of weeks and we have come to a decision, after talking with Joel, that the best thing for him right now is to shut it down and give him some rest. It was a tough decision because Joel is a great competitor and has a tremendous desire to help this team. We will continue to monitor his progress but we’re not putting a timetable on his return at this time.”
First Braxton Miller, now Joel Stave. QB1 at programs that could make the Big Ten nationally relevant are falling. And you don’t want to know what the quarterbacking is like in the bottom of the conference.
This is a huge blow for the Wisconsin Badgers. There were overly run dependent to begin with, and you saw few passes they attempted Saturday. You also saw how futile those pass attempts really were. With Joel Stave out , of the equation, it could end up being a very long, and boring to watch season for the Wisconsin offense.
