There haven’t been a ton of names being mentioned regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer window thus far, but they made one acquisition official on the 23rd- Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama. AZ Alkmaar forward Vincent Janssen should be the next summer buy, and according to one Dutch website, he soon will be, pending a Tottenham medical.
Voetbalzone.nl says this move is on, but how reliable are they? Here’s what Cartilage Free Captain, the Tottenham SB Nation community had to say on this manner.
I turned to Reddit for guidance. Here’s /r/coys user sam1oq on Voetbalzone:
Dutchy here TIF on voetbalzone.nl: it’s the biggest Dutch website on football. They used to just collect rumors and news from all sort of sources and write match reports, but recently they’ve been interviewing players, bringing out scouting reports of unknown young players that have been in the news recently and as we see here they’ve also started reporting themselves. This is the first time I see them reporting something so I have no clue how reliable this is. In context of what has been written before this seems reliable, but I can only guess as much as any other person that has been following this saga.
So, promising, but it’s not the BBC, you know? It’s could be telling that the big papers in England haven’t picked it up yet except for the Express, which references a Football Insider article which itself references “a well-placed Tottenham source.”
We’ll see. Watch this space, as nothing is done until it is done. For Janssen, his transfer keeps hitting some road blocks and that has become very frustrating to him.
In an interview with Dutch regional public broadcaster channel RTV NH (hat tip FOX Soccer/Press Association), the 22-year-old admits the unwillingness of his current club to sanction the transfer to the Barclays Premier League has left him in a sense of limbo.
“At the moment I’m still a bit disappointed with AZ. I’m disappointed with how they behaved. I would like to make the move,” Janssen told the television station.
Tottenham have made a bid, but the price was rejected for being too low.
On the 24th, Alkmaar Technical Director Max Huiberts told De Telegraaf, according to FOX Sports:
“The difference between the offer and the price we demand was too big.”
“But Spurs have made the only official bid. I’ve read a lot of speculation and been telephoned by other clubs but no one else has made any concrete offer.”
The Dutch top flight, the Eredivisie, sent its top scorer last year, Memphis Depay to Manchester United. One of the biggest transfer flops of the year, it’s expected that this year’s Eredivisie leading scorer, Janssen, could fare much better in a move to the English Premier League.
