Will this transfer window be the one that finally sees Saido Berahino get the move that he wants from West Bromwich Albion to Tottenham Hotspur? In the summer window, Spurs had a few bids rejected as the two sides just couldn’t iron out a price. The failed deal was highly publicized.
This transfer saga has continued to drag out during the January transfer window, and we’re probably all getting very tired of the narrative, having listened to this story over and over and over.
Saido Berahino himself has shown some poor form and bad attitude this season. Spurs Manager Mauricio Pochettino cryptically suggested the player’s reaction to not getting the transfer that he wanted might possibly make ill-suited for White Hart Lane.
“It’s our responsibility to sign not just the right players, but the right people,” Tottenham Hotspur Manager Mauricio Pochettino told the London Evening Standard today. “Talent is at the same level as character and personality.”
“We want to find good players but also good people. People who share our philosophy, behave well, show respect to the club and their team-mates and supporters; respect the badge.”
“This is very important for success. It’s my philosophy. This is the way we want to create a big team here and have success in the future.
“We have spent time to find the right people to give advice and information. It’s hard, it’s true, but we must do it.
“There are a lot of names on the market and it is easy simply to sign a player. But to get the right player, who has respect for the changing room, is our responsibility.”
Saido Berahino has just three goals this season in 15 games, and in 2013-14, he had just five goals in 33 games. Of course, last season saw improved form as he scored 14 times in 2014-15. Still, there has been reported interest in Berahino from Newcastle, Stoke City and even Liverpool
