There’s no debate about what the game of this weekend was going to be- first place Manchester City at second place Tottenham Hotspur. After the result, a 2-0 win for Tottenham, we have a debate:
Were Spurs that good or City that off? According to Man City boss Pep Guardiola, Spurs were the better team and absolutely deserved to win.
“They were better, the better team,” Pep Guardiola said. “We played against a team who had the same trainer for the last two or three years and last season was fighting for Premier League.
“They have players with talent — we knew how aggressive they are, home and away and especially home. Of course it was difficult — we had problems finding the guys and controlling our game.”
“The second balls, we lost a lot in dangerous positions. They were one step in front of us today.
“We can just say congratulations to Tottenham. When opponent is better, you accept it and learn from that.”
Spurs dictated the pace and tempo of the game, and City conformed. In doing so Tottenham got a huge result at home and narrowed the gap from four points down to one, as we now head into another long, boring international break. While Pep Guardiola pointed out that Spurs were the better team on the pitch in this one postgame, Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino articulated how City is the bigger team off the pitch financially on Saturday.
He made some interesting, candid comments. More on that over at this link.
