As Mauricio Pochettino leads Tottenham Hotspur into a London Derby vs Chelsea tonight, he does so making some bold statements. And why shouldn’t he? He’s finishing up the best season that Spurs have seen in a generation, and just secured a new long term contract.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has promised he will lead the London club into their new stadium in 2018 as champions.
He’s quoted in The Sun: “I’ve explained a lot of times that we are ahead in our project.”
“I’m very happy with our squad but, yes, our aim is to arrive in the new stadium at the top and playing in the Champions League.”
Tottenham Hotspur is in win or else mode tonight, as anything but a win eliminates them from league title contention. In a season where many of the big boys are down, thus opening the door for some of the usual underdogs to step up, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up. In the longer term, Pochettino says he wants to win the league title next year and build a dynasty like Sir Alex Ferguson did at Manchester United.
This is why Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy believes in him and rewarded him with a new deal.

In the shorter term, Pochettino is focused on finishing strong: “We need to be focused on finishing in a good position, with the title if possible. It is important all the focus is on football and trying to win games.”
“It is important we concentrate on working hard to continue performing well next season.”
It will be a challenge as Chelsea is anxious to put the final nail in Tottenham’s title coffin. Blues Interim Boss Guus Hiddink has thrown shade at Tottenham ahead of this one, and Eden Hazard has specifically said that he’d like to help end Spurs title hopes.
