Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is perhaps the best homegrown young scorer in England right now. He had a major breakout this past season and provides a cornerstone for Spurs to build around if they are to progress beyond Europa League mediocrity. Kane was the subject of transfer rumors involving a move to Manchester United for much of the summer, even though the idea was never really all that believable to begin with.
The story line persisted even though one could not honestly imagine him leaving Spurs any time soon.
Now the main story line surrounding Harry Kane is “when will he finally break through and score his first goal this season?”
Through the first four games, Harry Kane is yet to find the back of the net. However, he did get a brace for England this past weekend. The Three Lions gave tiny micro-state San Marino a 6-0 thrashing and Kane scored the fifth tally. He told the media afterward:
“Obviously a lot has been said about me not scoring yet this season, but the confidence is still there. I think you saw that in the finish.”
“I am delighted to get on the scoresheet and hopefully I can get the ball rolling now and push on.”
“It was a little bit (of a weight on my shoulders). Obviously every striker wants to be scoring, so when you’re not, when people are talking, you want to prove them wrong.”
He’ll have to get it going if Spurs are going to go anywhere this season. His slow start has mirrored that of Tottenham.
Spurs weren’t able to close the Saido Berahino deal, nor find any other substantial strikers to complement Harry Kane in the summer transfer window, so this position could be an issue for them all season long.
