Tottenham Hotspur right-back DeAndre Yedlin is a rising young talent. He moved to the English Premier League from the Seattle Sounders of American Major League Soccer just this year, and already the 21-year-old is drawing attention from numerous other British teams.
Supposedly, he’s wanted on loan by Bolton Wanderers, Derby County and Burnley. Yedlin is quite versatile. In addition to playing in the back line, you can put him out wide in midfield, or on the wing. The United States National Team started him out wide right tonight as they took on Honduras in their opening Gold Cup game. The USMNT won 2-1, but Yedlin did not draw favorable feedback on his performance.
CBS Sports gave him a poor individual player rating:
DeAndre Yedlin – (5) Should have scored USA’s second but wasted a chance in front of goal. Was not a threat down the right like he was in Guatemala game. Hard to notice him.
It wasn’t so much his play that made him a top ten trending term on Twitter tonight. It was his lower back tattoo (or colloquially known as a “tramp stamp”) that inspired all the attention.
Here’s some of the best and worst DeAndre Yedlin tweets this evening:
